"The two great gods, Vishnu and Shiva, travelling with wives and child, encounter one another along the way. In a friendly gesture, the goddess of prosperity Lakshmi gives some alms to the beggar Shiva. Signaling still greater union among the gods, the head of Vishnu's elephant and the bull's head of Shiva's mount merge in a visual double entendre. To complete the roadside pantheon, Brahma and other gods observe from the clouds above."
